My Extra Brain

By: Sandra Blackwell, Artistic Guide

I just started a new job as assistant manager at the new Hobby Lobby in Spokane.  I find myself needing to make note of numbers and other things a lot, all over the store.  I couldn’t use just any old ugly notepad for that!

Supplies:
Stamps:
Flower stamp (clear stamp, manufacturer unknown)
Paper:
White cardstock
Clear acetate
Ink:
Adironack alcohol inks (Ranger)
Black StazOn ink pad (Tsukineko)
Other:
Peel N Stick

Directions:

  1. I started by covering my notepad with plain white cardstock, using peel n stick.  This all over adhesive will make sure the cardstock is stuck all over.  I picked a few stamps and stamped in a collagy way all over the front, but didn’t really like it, so I needed to cover it up with something else.

  2. I took a piece of clear acetate and dropped alcohal ink on it, then dabbing it around with a felt square.  I used yellow first,  then blue and raspberry.  The yellow didn’t really show in the end.  I dabbed the raspberry and blue around, and added a bit of gold and dabbed some more, till I was happy with the finished result.

  3. After the acetate dried I still needed something, so I found a dandelion stamp to stamp on the other side of the acetate with Stazon ink.
  4. I cut a piece of the acetate in ATC size, and using Peel n Stick, put it in the middle of my note pad.  Viola!  A notepad for me to carry in my pocket at work.

  1. Have a great time with your new job. How do you have time to work when there is so much to look at? I was in a Hobby Lobby in Rapid City, SD. Huge wonderful store. I too would like to some some on the west coast.

  2. Dream job indeed.....I'd end up with no pay check left! Great job on your notebook. I first saw a Hobby Lobby back in Tulsa this year. What an awesome store. I hope they come a little further west to the Portland area! M's isn't nearly as neat at HL!

  3. Now that's what I call a DREAM job!! That's sounds like fun! I love the notebook you made and yes you could teach classes in that. Great job.... good luck!

  4. Lovely designed notepad and if others see that, they just might want one too. Or you can teach them to make their own.

  5. what a great idea!

  6. Concratulations on your new job. A dream job in my humble opinion. Love the book you made for keeping notes.
