July Trail Map: Linda’s View

By: Linda Selymes, Artistic Guide

I belong to an online birthday club, where we send greetings each month to members who have a birthday.  We normally include a little something in the card, like brads, or rubons, some die cuts, etc........just a little token.  I have a lovely sheet of butterfly rubons I want to send, and they fit perfectly into a size 10 business envelope; so I decided to make a standard size 10 card from this month's sketch to send the little gift.  It's pretty simple to make, and I used up lots of scraps from my scrap box.  Here is the result using Stamper's Quest July Trail Map.

Supplies:
Stamps:
Large Butterfly (Sutter Stamps)
Small Butterfly (Inkadinkadoo)
Papers:
White card stock cut to 9.25" x 8.0" (Neenah Classic Crest Ivory)
Black card stock cut to 9.125" x 3.875"
Designer paper cut to 9.0" x 3.75"
Three scraps of black card stock each cut to 2.5" x 1.0"
One scrap of black card stock cut to 4.0" x .625"
One scrap of black card stock cut to 2.0" x 1.5"
One scrap of white card stock approximately 3.0" x 1.0"
Inks:
Tuxedo Black Memento Dye Ink (Tsukineko)
Other:
Sentiments were computer generated
Three plastic or paper flowers, or brads or buttons or other embellishments from your stash
Scissors
Paper cutter and bone folder
Paper glue or double sided adhesive
Copic pens or colored pencils
Transparent glitter (White Satin by Barbara Trombley's Art Glitter")
Quickie Glue Pen (Sakura Color Products Corp.)

Directions:

  1. Score card base vertically at 4.0" and fold to make card measuring 9.25" x 4.0"
  2. Attach the designer paper to the large black card stock and attach both to the card front.
  3. As shown in the photo, attach the three black scraps: the first one from the left edge about .625" from the top, the second one from the right edge about 2.25" from the top; and the third one from the left edge about 1.25" from the bottom.
  4. Attach the 4.0" scrap across the bottom of the card about .375" up from the bottom of the card.
Trim the "Happy Birthday" sentiment to 3.875" x .50" with the sentiment centered and attach on top of the narrow black card stock at the bottom.
  5. Stamp the large butterfly on white cardstock, color with pens and add glitter.  Cut out, bend the wings up slightly and attach as shown with a pop dot.
  6. On a scrap of white card stock  3.0" x .75" stamp the small Inkadinkadoo butterfly repeatedly, overlapping in spots and stamping off the sides of the paper.  Cut three pieces each.75" wide and adhere evenly spaced to the middle of the second black strip as shown.
  7. Trim the second sentiment just slightly smaller than the black rectangle and attach both pieces between the second black strip and the butterfly.  I did this step last to make sure the sentiment is visible above the large butterfly.
  8. Attach your brads, flowers, or other embellishments, write a personal note on the inside, add your little gift and you are good to go.
  9. Be proud of your art and don't forget to sign your work.

  1. What a great card and it is very creative and artistic looking. We always need new ways to use up those scraps that are inevitable in our craft. And, looking at this card, no one would believe it was done with leftovers. I love it.

  2. Lovely card Linda - bet recipient is very pleased when she gets this card!
