Inside Out: Flower Shower

Inside Flower Shower

Finished cared size: 4.25” x5.5”

This technique works well for all occasions, especially when your stamp is small and you have no coordinating focal stamp.

Supplies:
Stamps:
Flower –CM001 stamp it Floral (Hero Arts)
Sentiment –Cottage Home (Flourishes)
Paper:
Teal pack middle tone 8.5” x11” (The Paper Company)
Ink:
Versamark  (Tsukineko)
Stream  (Ranger Ink) {Note: I used the water based pigment ink but the dye ink works just as well.}
Tranquil Teal and Hot Aqua Mark it Markers (Bic)
Other:
Jewels from the Floral stamp  (Hero Arts)
Post it notes for masks (3M)
Foam tape, pop dots, or glue dots (your choice)

Directions:

  1. Cut your paper to 5.5" along the 11” side. Reserve the extra piece.
  2. Score on piece at 4.25".
  3. Turn the card over so that you are working on the inside first. Stamp the sentiment where you want it.
  4. Stamp again on a post-it note so that you can mask the sentiment. Trim the Post-it note to the size you want. Be sure it is large enough to cover the sentiment. (Hint: You might also want to cut another post-it note to mask the signature area in the next step.) Place the Post it note over the area you want to keep stamping free.
  5. With the Versamark ink begin in the middle of the area you want to stamp and work outward.
  6. Remove the post-it notes and turn your card over so that the front is ready to work on.
  7. Place the post-it notes along the fold on the left side or fold the back under so it doesn’t show.
  8. Starting somewhere near the midline, begin stamping the floral image from the center image outward, remembering to stamp off the page edge to give an all over pattern . If you have errors or awkward spaces don’t worry. We will hide that later. (Hint: I like to start a little higher than center because I find that the center gives a more symmetrical feel, rather than a random feel.)
  9. On the other part of your original sheet stamp several images in Stream ink.
  10. Color these with the Mark It markers in Tranquil Teal and Hot Aqua. Do not use just one color unless you want your flowers to look like pinwheels.
  11. Shape the petals in whatever direction you choose. If they are too small to shape with your finger roll them over a pencil, paintbrush end, stylus or anything else handy. I did 2 downward and 3 upward leaving the inside one flat.
  12. With the Hot Aqua Mark It pen color the jewels and let dry. Then apply the jewel to the center of the flowers. (Hint: This is easier done with tweezers. My favorites are Tweezer Bees by EK Success.)
  13. Add 3M Foam tape, Pop Dots or glue dots to the backs of the flowers and place the flower in the appropriate places. This is a good time to strategically place the cut outs to caver any imperfect images.  Place the flat one on the inside touching the sentiment.

That is it. You are done.

    Variations:

Step 5. Cover the area you want on the inside right and the complete area on the inside left giving an all over pattern on the inside.

Step 8: Color directly on the card. Remember to protect the inside of the card and plan to line is since the Bic Mark Its are alcohol based and will soak through.

  1. this is a very lovely card. Sometimes you just need a nothing card. This kind of stamp is perfect. Nothing and everything all at once...

  2. The ideas about using more than one color for flowers... thanks for the tip. I appreciate ideas that can make my work better.
