Rubbadubbadoo Rubber Stamps: Bea’s View

By: Bea Rosenleaf, Publisher

 Framed Watercolor

My main stamps from Rubbadubbadoo center around the ocean, or water. The ocean is my favorite place to be, so creating with these stamps is fun and easy!  I also have some other stamps from Rubbadubbadoo that I purchased, which I will share with you here as well.

I love their images.  Clinton and Tania seem to think of every type of image you could possibly want!  Of course, they have many, many more images I want!  For now, I will just have to be happy with what I have, and who wouldn't be? These stamps are great!  Hope you enjoy my interpretation of these stamps.  Enjoy!

And, Clinton and Tania, thank you for sponsoring challenges and providing stamps for the team here at Stamper's Quest! We had so much fun working with these stamps and creating all the wonderful artwork featured all week!

"The tide
recedes but
leaves behind
bright seashells
on the sand.
The sun goes down,
but gentle warmth
still lingers
on the land.
The music stops,
and yet
it echos on
in sweet refrain...
For every joy
that passes,
somthing beautiful
remains."

Small watercolor brush
Flat 'wash' brush

Ruler and pencil
Post-it Note pad (3-M)
Scrap piece of paper

Directions:

  1. Measure and lightly mark  a 5" wide x 7" long framed area on the piece of watercolor paper with ruler and pencil.
  2. Ink the boat stamp image with green and brown markers using the greens for the grassy areas and the brown for the dirt (sand) area and the boat.  Decide where to place the image, huff on it several times and stamp onto the watercolor paper. Let dry for a bit.
  3. Using a small watercolor brush, dip it into the container of water then remove some of the water. You just want a light moit brush.  Use the brush to pull the colors from the stamped outline into the boat area.  Repeat with the grassy area and the dirt/sand areas.
  4. Using the mister of water, spray the H2Os and let sit for a while to soften the paint.
  5. Using the Cedar Wood and Chestnut Brown, paint highlights onto the boat.
  6. Ink the Wheat stamp with the Jade marker. Mask off the borders with scrap paper and stamp the wheat several times on the bottom of the framed area.  Using the brush, repeat Step 3  to create a 'watercolor' effect on the 'grass.' When the area is dry, stamp over it using the Olive Green marker.  Let this area dry completely.
  7. Using the Tuxedo Black ink, stamp a cloud image in the sky area of the frame - kind of in the middle.  Stamp the image again on a Post-it Note and trim out the clouds, just inside the outer lines. Lay mask over the stamped cloud.
  8. Ink the cloud with the London Fog ink pad and stamp on either side of the masked cloud. Remove the mask. Paint the clouds using the Siam White and Oyster H2Os. Pull some of the inked portion in with the paintbrush to give the clouds a little bit of a gray look.
  9. Dip the wash brush into the water and brush onto the framed around around the clouds.  Using Bashful Blue, load the flat brush. Brush off a bit of the color onto a piece of scrap paper. Then wash the color around the clouds and down a bit to create the sky.  Repeat with a bit of Sky Blue to give the sky a little bit of depth.
  10. Repeat the above step just below the sky down to the boat image with Sea Glass H2O.  Let dry thoroughly.
  11. Using the Onyx Black ink, stamp "The Tide Recedes" sentiment.
  12. Find a mat to coordinate with your painting, frame and hang for all to see, or give as a gift to someone special. Don't forget to sign your work of art!

Here you can see the lightly drawn lines on the paper to indicate where the 5" x 7" area is that is used to create the scene.

And last, but not least, here is Bea's creative works using Rubbadubbadoo rubber stamps.

Other stamp used is the Tree Rings background by Local King Rubber Stamps.

This is the inside of the above card using the Rubbadubbadoo sentiment. These two just went together so well! The sentiment says:

"When a tree gets a year older it makes a growth ring by adding another layer of tissue around its girth...Boy, does that sound familiar. Happy Birthday"

The tree stamp is by Stampscapes

The last card is a stairstep card. Be watching in the near future for directions on how to make this one!

Sadly, this is the end of our feature on Rubbadubbadoo rubber stamps. We had a lot of fun on this artistic journey creating artwork to show off these wonderful stamps.  Do be sure to check out their website and all the wonderful images Clinton and Tania have to offer!

Have a wonderful artistic journey!

  1. Thank you for your comments, Susan! I used two different techniques on the background. On the background piece I used a brayer and started with a yellow and then added an orange on the top part of a piece of 4.25" x 5.5" cardstock. Then sprayed it with water to let it blend. Dried with a heat gun. Then I used two colors of blue - light blue on the back then went over it in places with the darker and repeated the process. Then I ran it through the Cuttlebug using an embossing folder. I used Distress inks - they blend better with the water.

The piece with the sailboat was done with a stipple brush using the same colors.

    Just experiment and play!!!
