Resist Techniques *B2B*

By: Karyn Campbell, Artistic Guide

I thought that I would explore a few resist techniques for my blog week here.  It is an easy way to add some "wow" factor to your cards with very few supplies and falls into our Back 2 Basics theme too!

Let's start with Glossy Crayon Resist. Most every stamper has these supplies on hand (I promise I won't tell on you for snagging the white crayon from your kiddo's box!)

Glossy Crayon Resist by Karyn Campbell, Artistic Guide

Supplies:

  • Glossy white paper (you can even use photo paper in a pinch - think the freebies you can pick up or that get sent to you!)
  • White Crayon
  • Black Ink such as Memento Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko)
  • Colored Inks such as Palette Hybrid inks (Superior) in coordinating color combination
  • Sponge(s) (use one for each color of ink)
  • Rubber Stamp Image with open areas to highlight (flowers are good!) I used Scatter Joy from FireCracker Designs by Pamela
  • paper towel or soft cloth

Directions:

  1. Gather Supplies.
  2. Using Black ink stamp image(s) as desired onto glossy cardstock.
  3. Using White Crayon trace, color in, outline or doodle on/around images as desired to create areas that will stay white once your colored ink is applied.
  4. Using sponge(s) apply ink as desired around and over the images. Be sure to dab ink on not smoosh it on you want the ink to be resisted by the crayon, not blended in. Apply other colors as desired blending the edges where the colors overlap. Notice in this next photo how you can't really see the white but after the next step it will really POP!
  5. Sponge the ink

  6. Using a paper towel or soft cloth gently wipe over the entire piece to remove any colored ink that is is sitting on top of the crayon.
  7. There you go a great background to use on your hand made project. Cut and use as desired.

Check back on Wednesday when we will explore another great background technique by Karyn!
