Masculine nautical card-post 3

By Melanie Smith, Artistic Guide

Here is my next masculine themed card.  This is another Nautically themed card in a (nearly) monotone colorscheme.  It uses ripped edges so that there will be no imperfections on square corners or straight sides.  I  also looked for something to add some texture other than the ripping and embossing.   I contemplated using some eyelets but did not think that I could get the eyelets in straight and even enough.  In the end I decided to use some garden twine cut into short lengths and frayed the ends once it was attached.

Finished card size: 4.25" x 5.5"

Supplies:
Stamps:
Double starfish (Stampington & Co)
Papers:
White smooth 8.5"x11"
Ocean Blue  12"x12" (Doublemates)
Inks:
Adirondack Dye inks: (Ranger)
     Cloudy Blue
     Stonewashed
     Denim
     Eggplant
Other:
Brayer (Speedball)
Cut 'n' dry foam (Ranger)
Garden twine
Mesh Cuttlebug embossing folder (Provocraft)
Paper trimmer, scissors
Foam tape
Double sided tape
Sellotape (regular wrapping tape)

Directions:

  1. Cut the white cardstock in half and score and fold one piece to make a 4.25" x 5.5" card.
  2. On the other half of the white card brayer 'cloudy blue' ink. (It does not need to be a smooth even coverage).
  3. Stamp the image using Stonewashed ink.
  4. Rip around the image - close to the edges of the frame.
  5. Sponge denim and Eggplant inks around the edges of the image.
  6. Rip a pice of the Ocean Blue Doublemates cardstock slightly larger than the ripped image.  Face the pale side up and rip towards you to get the dark blue border to show.
  7. Attach the two pieces together.
  8. Reink the image with Denim ink and stamp onto another pice of white cardstock.
  9. Cut out the starfish.  Curl the legs with the back of your scissors.   Attach to the panel with a foam square.
  10. Cut some short lengths of garden twine.  Attach them randomly to the back of the card with tape.  Fray and trim the twine.
  11. Cut a piece of Doublemates - Ocean Blue, 4" x 5.25" and emboss with the mesh folder.
  12. Attach the embossed card to the white base.
  13. Attach the centre panel with foam squares.
  14. Cut two strips of 'Ocean blue' 4" x 2.5" and rip a long edge off each one.  Apply double-sided tape to the cut edges as shown.  (You will be able to slip card or tags into the pocket on the bottom.)
  15. Tape the two pieces inside the card.
  16. Voila - your masculine card is done.

  1. Ah yes I like this very man orientated card. Thanks for the ideas. this is fantastic.

I also have for men, architectural element, two compass rose, a light house and an old truck rusting in the weeds. these all work well in the mono tone or full color and several various card making themes.

  2. I relly like the colors and different textures you used on your mascaline card !

  3. What a great masculine card...simple but very creative. And, the twine is a perfect compliment to add more texture and interest. Thanks for showing this. Sometimes I find doing masculine to be more of a challenge and this seems very do'able.

  4. Excellent card. Thanks.

  5. Love this! I don't find monochrome easy, but this doesn't look too hard to put together. Thanks for sharing.
