Finished piece mesasures 4" tall x 3.25" diameter

I am always looking for new ways to dress up the Thanksgiving table and so I came up with this project.  The container itself is a recycled sticker spool - ask your local stamp or scrapbook store to save them for you!  Quick enough to whip up, yet striking enough to have your guests complimenting you, this new twist on the place setting holder will add artistic flair to your dinner for sure.

Supplies:
Stamps:
Happy Thanksgiving (Close to My Heart)
Autumn Leaves cube (JudiKins)
Paper:
Orange marbled handmade paper (unknown)
Chocolate cardstock (Bazzill)
Cream cardstock (Bazzill)
Ink:
Embossing Ink (Ranger)
Other:
Chipboard cylinder (such as an empty sticker roll or section of mailing tube)
Rust Tapestry embossing powder (PSX)
Light brown fun foam (unknown)
Decoupage Medium (Decopatch)
Gel Medium (Golden)
1" diameter chocolate seam binding ribbon
Gold pigment pen (Krylon)
Cadium Red acrylic paint (Golden)
Quinacridone Gold acrylic paint (Golden)
Green Gold acrylic paint (Golden)
Foam brushes
Heat tool (Milwaukee)
Paper trimmer (Fiskars)
Scissors (Tonic)

Directions:

  1. Begin by tearing pieces of the orange handmade paper into smaller, workable pieces.
  2. Paint on a thin layer of decoupage medium over a small area of your chipboard cylinder.  Apply the handmade paper and paint over with another thin layer of decoupage medium.  Repeat this step until the entire cylinder is covered.  Make sure to overlap your pieces of handmade paper to ensure complete coverage.
  3. Line the lip of the cylinder with a gold pigment pen.
  4. Once the decoupaged cylinder is dry, adhere the chocolate seam binding ribbon around the diameter of the cylinder.  Use a thin layer of gel medium as your adhesive.  Apply the gel medium directly to the cylinder, press your ribbon around firmly and trim away excess.  Set aside.
  5. Stamp the "Happy Thanksgiving" sentiment onto cream cardstock using embossing ink.  Sprinkle on rust embossing powder and heat with a heat tool.PlaceSettingDetailLeaves
  6. Trim cream cardstock down to size and mount to a piece of chocolate cardstock that is approximately 1/8" larger to serve as your mount.  Gel medium can be used to adhere the cream cardstock to the chocolate cardstock.
  7. Adhere your mounted sentiment over the seam binding ribbon.  Apply a thin layer of gel medium to the back of the chocolate cardstock.  Press onto the cylinder, over the ribbon.  Hold in place for a few moments to ensure good adhesion.  Set aside.
  8. Prepare the fun foam for impression-making by heating with your heat tool.  Once the fun foam begins to warp or curl, it is ready to take an impression.  Stamp one of your leaf stamps into the fun foam.  Hold the stamp firmly in place for a few moments.  As the fun foam cools, the image will become permanently impressed.  Lift the stamp off of the foam and trim with scissors.  Repeat for all of your leaf stamps.
  9. Brush each leaf image with Quinacridone Gold paint.  Wait a few seconds and remove with a rag or paper towel.  The gold paint should sink into the recesses of the image.  Repeat this process with the Green Gold and Cadium Red paints, but only apply the paints in small, random areas.
  10. Adhere the leaves to the cylinder using gel medium.  Apply the leaves to the corner of the sentiment.  Hold in place for a few minutes to ensure good adhesion.
  11. Fill with a "bouquet" of utencils wrapped in a napkin and place at each person's plate on your Thanksgiving table.
