Miniature Gratitude Journal for the Inventor

Miniature Gratitude Journal

Miniature Gratitude Journal

By: Stephanie Loomis, Artistic Guide

Sometimes I forget to be grateful for the little things. To help me keep an attitude of gratitude, I created a mini journal that will fit into my purse. When I see something or think of something for which I am thankful, I jot it down. Then on the days when I’m more in the mood for grousing than gratitude, I can refer to my notes and make a change in my perspective.

Supplies:
Stamps:
Alpha Tiles (The Angel Company)
Paper:
Decorative paper (BoBunny)
Coordinating solid color cardstock (Marco’s paper)
Kraft paper or brown grocery bag paper (Marco’s paper)
Ink:
Noir Black Palette ink pad (Stewart Superior)
Spiced Marmalade Distress ink pad (Ranger)
Other:
4.5” x 3.25” Composition Book (Penway)
Aleene’s Tacky Glue (Duncan Enterprises)
.25” wide double stick tape (ATG gun by 3M)
Matte Accents (Ranger)
Japanese Screw Punch with a 2 mm bit (Bonnie’s Best Art Tools)
Copper wire-24 gauge (The Beadery)
Embellishments (DiBona Designs)
Bitty Blossoms (Bazzill)
Brads (Special Moments)

Directions:

  1. Cut two pieces of decorative cardstock to 3.25” x 4.5”.
  2. Cut two pieces of solid color cardstock to 3.25” x 4.5”.
  3. Glue the decorative pieces to the outside covers of the mini journal and the solid colored papers to the inside covers. Place under a heavy book or two and let dry.
  4. Stamp letters to spell “Gratitude” on the brown paper. Cut out.
  5. Cut or punch 27 squares the same size as the tiles (about .5” square)
  6. Stack squares four high with a letter on the top. Glue together. Place under a heavy book and let dry.
  7. Sand the edges of the journal to smooth and even out. Rub the edges with Spiced Marmalade ink. (Orange is such a cheery color!)
  8. Run a line of tape vertically on the journal cover and place “gratitude” letters carefully.
  9. Cover letter tiles with Matte Accents and let dry.
  10. Punch nine holes along the edge of the journal. Thread wire through and add embellishments.
  11. Put brads into blossom centers and glue to journal front.
  12. Sign your art!

  1. going back to read ones gratitude journal is often an interesting thing to do you see sometimes that the simplest tiny thing makes you thankful and it is an instant mood changer if you are in a funk :) Your journal is very pretty and just looking at it would change a mood not to mention what is inside!

  2. Love the idea of a gratitude journal firstly and have been noting grateful bits for years. However I made mine out of a composition book. This is a totally Fab-bo idea to make one the size to be more portable, the dangles off of it - Oh way cool.. I appreciate the reminder you have about signing your art work. It says so much, even when we do things that we think are not our best. Sign and even date to watch how your work has evolved. To you it may be a blah peice; but to some one some where, it may be the work of art that encourages them to press on. Thanks Stephanie hugs to you and yours.
