Holiday Blizzard Project – Chocolates Giftbox
The "Did You Make This?" Gift Box.
By: Melanie Smith, Artistic Guide
Finished size: 6" x 6"
Sometimes at Christmas we like to give a little something special and indulgent that we have made ourselves. My sister-in-law is renowned for her home made coconut ice. I thought these little boxes would be perfect for giving home-made sweets - or if you're like me and not organised enough in the kitchen - some very special chocolates.
This box uses the Spellbinders Squares Nestabilities. It is very easy and once you've done a couple you'll be able to 'pump' them out in all sorts of colours.
Supplies:
Stamps:
Mini holly (Rubbadubbadoo)
Papers
12" x 12" Christmas patterned designer paper
12" x 12" red Swiss dots cardstock
Acetate
3" x 3" white or cream cardstock for tag
Inks
Red Brilliance inkpad (Tsukineko)
Other:
Cuttlebug with A, B and C plates
Nestabilities square cutting and embossing dies (Spellbinders)
Large and small classic square
Large and small scallop square
Doublesided tape
Removable adhesive
Ribbon
Directions:
Note: The Spellbinders dies have been counted from the smallest die in the centre as #1... to the largest die on the outside being (in this case) #7.
- Cut one piece of small classic square #6 from the red cardstock.
- Cut six pieces of large scallop squares #5 from the red cardstock.
- Cut six pieces of large classic square #5 from the designer paper.
- Score the red cardstock at 3" on every side of five pieces scoring with the right-side down.
- Score the last red cardstock at 3" on every side with the right-side facing up on three sides and right-side facing down on one side. This becomes the box lid.
- Using removable adhesive attach the patterned paper to three of side pieces.
- Use double-sided tape to adhere patterned paper to both sides of the back piece.
- Attach another square of patterned paper to the red classic square.
- Cut the corner scollops from the lid piece. Fold the edges as they naturally fold. (with the 'bump' side to the inside - the side that you scored on goes to the larger angle). Repeat with the base piece.
- Attach the square to the lid, butting the back edge up against the folded back (sticking up) edge.
- Take three of the side pieces and cut a square right through with small classic square #4 die.
- Cut three pieces of acetate with the small classic square #5. Attach thin double sided tape to each side.
- Carefully remove the patterned paper from the sides and front pieces. Remember that it has gone through the Cuttlebug so it will be extra bonded. Attach the acetate to the back of the patterned paper.
- Attach the frame to the red card ensuring that you centre the windows over top of each other carefully.
- These are the pieces that you should have.
- Attach double-sided tape to the left and right sides of the front and back pieces. Then attach the side pieces together. Fold out the scallop edges as you go. Cut the corner scallops from each corner (8).
- Attach the lid on one side and the base on all four sides.
- Fold the three sides of the lid down.
- Now it's time to whip up a quick gift tag. Stamp the mini holly using red Brilliance ink onto white or cream cardstock.
- Cut out the tag with another classic square cutting die of your choice.
- Cut a scallop square from the red cardstock.
- Adhere the two layers together.
- Punch a small hole through the corner of the tag and through one of the scallop corners on the box and thread the pieces together with ribbon.
- Next just whip up a nice batch of fudge to give away.

Thank you ladies,
It really is quite simple - especially if you leave out the windows.
I've made at least 10 of these now in different colours and I love each one of them. But I do admit the windows one is my favourite.
Cheers
Mel
Beautiful box! It seems a bit too much for me to want to try, but I'd love getting something in a box like this. Thanks for the tutorial.
All I can say is WOW!!! This is one cool project. I'm going to give this a try for sure. Thanks Melanie!
Hugs, Penny~
