Starry Wine Tote
By: Christine Candora-Hickey, Artistic Guide

This wine tote makes for the perfect presentation of a fine bottle of wine.  What a great way to bring a bottle as a gift for the host of all your holiday parties.

Supplies:
Stamps:
Christmas Greetings Star (Zimprints)
Outline Star (Hero Arts)
Paper:
White speckled cardstock (Stampin' Up!)
White mulberry paper (handmade, manufacturer unknown)
Brushed gold paper (Stampin' Up!)
Gold Mirror cardstock (Marco's Paper)
Ink:
Galaxy Gold Brillance (Tsukineko)
Gold Rush Colorbox (Clearsnap)
Other:
Gesso (Golden)
Titanium White acrylic paint (Golden)
Gold Crystal Lacquer (Sakura)
Egyptian Gold embossing powder (The Stamp Lady)
Embossing Ink reinker (Ranger)
Matte Regular Gel Medium (Golden)
Heat tool (Milwaukee)
Paint brush
Mini Mister (Ranger)
Scissors
Gold organdy ribbon (unknown)
Wine Tote (purchased at Wal-Mart)
Paper towel or scrap cloth

Directions:

  1. Begin by painting one coat of gesso all over the wine tote - body and lid. This will seal the chipboard and allow for a more true value of white on the coming layers.  To hasten drying time, use your heat tool.
  2. Tear a piece of mulberry paper into various triangles and rectangles. Decoupage the pieces onto the body and lid of the wine tote using gel medium.  Once complete, blast with the  heat tool to hasten drying time.
  3. Brush on one coat of Titanium White acrylic paint all over the body and lid of the tote.  Take a paper towel or scrap piece of cloth to wipe off the paint.  This will create a translucent layer over the paper.  Dry with the heat tool.
  4. Fill a Mini Mister with embossing ink.  Spray a side of the tote with the embossing ink.  Sprinkle on Egyptian Gold embossing powder, tap off extra, and set with heat tool.
  5. Repeat step 4 for each side of the wine tote body and for the lid.  Set aside when done.
  6. Stamp Christmas Greetings Star repeatedly on white speckled paper using Gold Rush ink.  Cut out.
  7. Mount a few selected stars to brushed gold paper and trim.  Set stars aside.
  8. Stamp Outline Star repeatedly on white speckled paper.  Mount all of them to the gold mirror cardstock and trim.
  9. Adhere the small star pieces randomly over the body and lid of the tote using gel medium.
  10. Adhere the large, single-layer star pieces randomly over the body and lid of the tote using gel medium.
  11. Cut a length of ribbon approximately 6" long.  Fold in half and adhere to the back of the double-layered stars using gel medium.  This mimics a shooting star's tail.

  13. Adhere your newly-made shooting stars to the tote.  Placing one directly on top of the lid has a nice affect.
  14. Draw swirly tails for the small stars directly on to the tote using the gold Crystal Lacquer.
  15. Place a bottle of your favorite wine, champagne, or sparkling cider inside and present as a gift.

  1. OHH how charming. Egyptian gold is my absolute favorite.
I think it sounds like a lot of steps, thanks for taking the time to write them all down here.

  2. What a great idea, Christine. Very cool.
