Sunday International – Featured Rubber Stamp Company
I am Dee Gruenig’s husband.
Dee and I are fortunate to work with Sunday International (SI). Everything Dee and her staff have drawn for making rubber stamp images has gone into production which is simply unheard of! Other companies she has worked with typically accept one stamp design in ten and this is standard. With SI she has gotten into a creative rhythm.
How did it begin? Three years ago SI’s Gary Barbee approached Dee to work with them. SI is a small company but it has the key to enhancing the passion of stamping. Dee has worked with some of the biggest and best in crafts including All Night Media( now owned by Plaid), Rubber Stampede, Ranger, Uchida, Mrs. Grossman’s paper company (for stickers), Paper Adventures, Xyron and ProCraft LYCRA® gloves for crafting that were soon purchased by a company in Japan. All work but Xyron’s was done under license. But stamping as a craft activity was receding for these and most other companies. Dee, who had tried most crafts, maintained her love of stamping, and wanted to work with a company that could revive the excitement of this wonderful crafting hobby.
Earlier Dee had produced a book and sold over 300,000 copies, made 10 videos and had been a regular guest, making over 100 appearances for 10 years on the Carol Duvall Show along with other television appearances. Dee was at the peak of her popularity three years ago but was eager to retire in order to enthusiastically pursue a long list of other activities she has wanted to do for some time. However, she saw a mission and some potential fun with Sunday International.
Besides putting 1500 new designs into production in 3 years, SI offered that mission via innovation, meaning a fresh new approach to stamping with the respected but somewhat undiscovered EZ Mount system for which they hold the patent. It had the potential to bring stamping back to prominence. So, Dee came on board and the first three years were mainly creating product. Promotion was yet to come. After the 3 contract was up Gary accepted the position of North American Sales Manager for an England based company called Crafter’s Companion. We thought at that point our experience with SI was over and retirement with pursuit of our planned list of activities had finally approached!
But Sunday with a fresh burst of support and commitment wanted to continue working with Dee to pursue some of their own ideas. This was a big surprise since SI is the leader for basic EZ Mount supplies and they own the Stamp & Store system. They also manufacture stamps for other companies as well. This is their core. Dee’s designs add credibility to their core. Posh is the whipped cream and cherry to top Sunday’s sundae to hopefully make their basic core approach appealing.
Sunday’s focus now is to produce a collection called The Best of Dee Gruenig to be released in increments of 4 sets at a time, manufactured in both finished, ready-to-use sets complete with genuine EZ Mount and also sets of simply deeply etched rubber to be mounted by stampers themselves on EZ Mount, wood, or something of the stamper’s choice. Images have been reduced in size to be used in conjunction with their larger, already in production, sisters or to be used for making small ATCs and Inchies. There are other minor changes too but the integrity of the original designs will be carefully maintained. It will be fun to see how they are received and used.
