Back to Basics

thirds-blog-2

For my blog week I have chosen a basic card design that is a simple, yet elegant classic.  With this simple idea you can branch out into a multitude of design concepts.  I call it a "Thirds Card."

The basic thirds card has a division of 1/3 - 2/3.  This means that there is 1/3 on the top and 2/3 on the bottom with a dividing line between.  I have used 1/3 on the bottom and 2/3 on the top.  It can be as a portrait layout or landscape.  You can also subdivide either portion for more interest.  I like to place something over the dividing line for more interest and contrast.  The only limit is your imagination.

Materials used: stamped backgrounds and papers, scrapbook papers, textured papers (either purchased or made with your texture plates and die cut machines), wall paper, photos on the top or bottom, handmade papers

Dividing line:  paper, layered papers, papers cut with decorative scissors, ribbon...

Place something on the divison area: medallions, pictures, button, stamped phrases, punched or silk flowers, monograms...

My few samples are just the bare minimum of what you can do with this very basic design.  Take this concept and make it your own. Then share it in our Flickr gallery!
