Shattered Glass for the Discoverer
By: Stephanie Loomis, Artistic Guide

 Finished card size: A2 (5.5" x 4.25")

Supplies:
Stamps:
Rollagraph wheel- Ignudo Border
Beethoven set (Artful Illusions)
Paper:
Kromekote white glossy cardstock cut to 5.5" x 4.25" (Marco's Paper)
A2 note card (I make my own by cutting an 8.5" x 11" sheet of Georgia-Pacific white cardstock in half
widthwise, creating two panels of 5.5" x 8.25". These are folded in half, creating two 5.5" x 4.25" note cards,
standard A2 size.)
Ink:
Brilliance ink pads: (Tsukineko)
    Platinum Planet
    Starlite Silver
    Graphite Black
Rollagraph black ink
Other:
Blue painter's tape (home improvement store)
Heat tool (Marvy)
Make up wedge (discount store)
Rollagraph tool
Adhesive of choice (I use my ATG 750 by Scotch)
Vellum print of Neil Young quote (source unknown)
Xyron sticker maker or Scotch vellum tape

Directions:

  1. Begin by tearing the blue painter's tape into jagged strips of varying lengths. I then stick them to my arm to diminish efficacy (the stickiness) of the adhesive. Even though it is a "non-stick" product, it is designed for walls, not paper.
  2. Determine a "strike point" for your card front. If you look at shattered windows or mirrors, you'll see that all the shattering emanates from a single spot. This is the strike point: the place where whatever hit the glass impacted.
  3. Apply your tape strips in a radius beginning from your determined strike point.  Smaller strips can be used as secondary "fractures."
  4. Apply Platinum Planet ink to the center of the card front using a DTP (direct-to-paper) technique with a swirling motion.
  5. Add Starlite Silver to the outside edges of the card front with the same swirling motion.
  6. Use a make-up wedge to blend the two colors together and add extra silver along the edges of the tape. (Brilliance ink is a pigment based ink, and on glossy paper, it stays wet long enough to blend.) Heat set.
  7. "Prime" the Rollagraph tool by running it over scrap paper until the image roller is well covered with ink. Roll tool over the card front.
  8. Ink Beethoven stamps with Graphite Black ink and stamp on card front. Heat set.
  9. Remove the blue painter's tape to reveal your shattered glass.
  10. Attach vellum quote to the "strike point" with vellum tape or a Xyron sticker maker.
  11. Attach card front to card base. If desired, edge card with Graphite Black ink.
  12. Sign your art!
